COVID-19 and ETG

As part of our precautionary measures to combat the spread of COVID-19, ESOC Theatre Group have decided to suspend all upcoming physical workshops and Stammtisches until further notice. Thank you for your understanding.

Online Stammtisch Update

Thank you so much for coming to our weekly virtual play readings since April. We had so much fun – and are already looking forward to continuing this nice tradition.

However, due to organisational reasons, we have to get back to our monthly rhythm. We already miss you – and will get back to you soon with the announcement of the next script title. Meanwhile, you can already pencil in Thursday, 29th October...

"Topdog/Underdog" by Suzan-Lori Parks
Thursday 29th October, 19:30

A darkly comic fable of brotherly love and family identity is Suzan-Lori Parks latest riff on the way we are defined by history. Topdog/Underdog tells the story of Lincoln and Booth – two African-American brothers – whose names were given to them as a joke, foretelling a lifetime of sibling rivalry and resentment. Haunted by the past, the brothers are forced to confront the shattering reality of their future. The play chronicles the adult lives of Lincoln and Booth – as they cope with poverty, racism, work, women, and their troubled upbringings.

Parks was the first African-American woman to win the Pulitzer Prize in Drama. She received the Prize in 2002.

To join us you will need to download the Zoom app. You can do this by going to https://zoom.us/signup and registering. It is free to use.

Then, on the evening in question, just before 7:30pm, click HERE and follow the instructions. The meeting ID is 843 5750 6595. If you have any problems or questions, please let us know.

A PDF of the script will be available during the Stammtisch using Zoom's 'screen sharing' option, therefore a tablet or PC would be easier to use rather than a mobile phone.
Our Stammtisch events are not rehearsed readings or performances from the group. Instead, they are casual meetings where we usually sit around a table (currently via video call), and read a script together. Sometimes just for fun, and sometimes to review them as a potential production. You do not need to be a Member to participate, so if you're curious, come and join us!
